Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing, regulate its systems, to improve functioning and to alleviate pain. This is done by inserting very fine, sterile, disposable needles at very precise acupuncture points.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), practised for over 5000 years, is currently the worlds oldest and most consistently practiced medical system. It is recognized by the world health organization in the treatment of over 40 conditions including musculo-skeletal, neurological, urogenital, gynecological, gastrointestinal, and more.

 Chinese Medicinal Herbs

Generally, herbal medicines work within the body in much the same way as conventional pharmacuetical drugs. That is, via their chemical make-up. The difference is in how they are prescribed. Herbs are prescribed to treat the root of the disease and its manifestation, rather than simply focusing on symptoms. Acupuncture treatments are enhanced with the combination of Chinese herbs.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is hands on manipulation of soft tissues & joints of the body & can take on many forms.

  • Assists in relaxation. Reduces anxiety and nervous tension caused by the stresses of work and a busy lifestyle.
  • Improves blood flow which benefits the circulatory and lymphatic systems.
  • Relieves muscular tightness and pain, neck and shoulder tension, muscle spasm and cramps.
  • Assists in the management and prevention of headaches.
  • Increases joint movements and flexibility.
  • Helps in the elimination of waste and toxins.
  • Promotes healing of injured tissues.
  • Assists with injury prevention, rehabilitation and recovery.
  • Facilitates muscle imbalance assessment and treatment.
  • Reduces excessive scar tissue formation.

Point Injection Therapy

Point injection therapy involves the injection of small amounts of saline solution or sterile water administered by a qualified acupuncturist. Like acupuncture, fine needles are inserted into acupuncture points or trigger points just under the skin or into muscle.

How does it work?

Saline solution is an isotonic solution containing the same salt concentrations as our cells, blood and interstitial fluid (the fluid between our cells). In cases of chronic illness or acute injury the interstitial fluid may become congested with the waste products of inflammation from the injured tissue, preventing the efficient nutrient and waste product transfer between the cells and the bloodstream.

The injection of saline may improve the quality of the interstitial fluid allowing nutrient and waste product transfer between the cells and the bloodstream to occur efficiently again. Saline, being pH neutral, may have its own particular effects on alkalising local connective tissues, optimising conditions for the body’s own self healing mechanisms.

It does not simply suppress or mask pain, but rather  prompts the body to treat the cause of the pain via self healing mechanisms.

What does it treat?

Point Injection Therapy is effective in treating sprains and strains but is ideal for treating chronic conditions that have failed to respond to other  forms of treatment.

It can be used to treat;

  • Sports injuries
  • Tennis elbow
  • Neck and hip pain.
  • Lower back pain and sciatica
  • Wrist and hand pain
  • Knee, foot and ankle pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Achilles pain

Bowen Therapy

What is Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a holistic remedial body technique that works on the soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body. Bowen therapy can be used to treat musculoskeletal or related neurological problems including acute sports injuries and chronic or organic conditions. It is gentle and relaxing and does not use forceful manipulation.

Bowen therapy is performed on the superficial and deep fascia. The fascia, or soft tissue, is the part of the connective tissue that envelops, separates and influences every organ and tissue in the body.

The Bowen technique is safe to use on anyone, from newborns to the elderly and for any musculoskeletal or related neuromuscular complaint. It is a holistic treatment that treats the whole person and uses the presenting symptoms of the body with an aim to treat the cause.

A Bowen treatment consists of sequences of small moves at varying pressures, each at a specific site on the body. The treatment is pleasant – therapists use light, cross-fibre manoeuvres of muscle, tendon or ligament with no forceful manipulation.

A treatment will typically last between 30 minutes and one hour, preferably working on the skin, though light clothing may be worn where necessary. During this time, the therapist will leave the room for periods of two to five minutes at a time. This allows time for your body to respond to the treatment and for the necessary changes to occur in your body before commencing the next sequence of moves.
